Getting a US Student US Visa is not as easy as applying an entrance exam on a university. Basically, there are two categories for student US visas, the F and M categories or commonly F-1 and M-1. Both are intended for non-immigrants who wish to acquire academic scientific studies or just a vocational research studies in a certain university in the USA. F-1 student visa is good for students who are planning to get a full-time academic program in the USA. This visa gives privilege for students to work on and off campus. Moreover, students with this visa are given opportunities to apply for employment trainings in the USA after completion of their academic program. On the other hand, M-1 student visa is intended for students who are planning to enroll for vocational programs in the USA such as cooking classes, mechanical trainings, technical studies and language programs. This visa is only valid for one year but students may apply cumulative extensions for up to three years.
A student must decide what type of US student visa he should get that suit to his academic program to study languages in USA. When decided already, he must prepare his requirements for the desired visa. One of the basic requirements in getting either an F-1 or M-1 visa is to have the interview. Exams are also one of the most important requirements. Students must take and pass TOEFL or the Test of English as a Foreign Language. If a student comes from an English speaking country, he may be exempted from the exam. Specialization specific exam is also very important. It is a test that determines the level of specialization of the student on the field he wishes to pursue. After all, students may prepare the following documents to get the visa:
- A written application letter to the academic institution
- Admission such as TOEFL, GRE and SAT
- Academic record
- Evidence of financial support
- An acceptance letter allowing a certain student to study in an institution
- Passport
